In 1982, the Hellenic Society of Kempton Park was formed, by the Greeks residing within the area. In reality, the Greek community of Kempton Park was for years part of the Greek community of Benoni, but for practical reasons, the community got an independent body.

The first Peloponnesians, arrived in South Africa around 1870's. In the beginning of 1941, aroused an idea of creating a Peloponnesian Association. The idea become a reality, on 23rd of April 1941.

In 1979, an idea was what sparked the begining of the "National Association Of Hellenic Youth & Student Organisation of South africa". In December 1980, the 1st inter university Hellenic function was held, at the camp, in Pringle Bay.

The Association was established in 1995. Prior to that, two organisations existed namely "the Greek Graduates Association of S.Africa" and the "Cypriot Graduates of S. Hellenic Orthodox Ladies Association, was developed in the early 1970's, under the guidance of the (then) Archbishop of Johannesburg. Within a short period of time, HOLA's range of activity in the field of human suffering, would expand to it's present magnitude.

In February 1934 the first meetings for the official formation of the Hellenic Cyprus Brotherhood began. In 1952 the Brotherhood purchased grounds and creates the "Cypriot Club" with sports & entertainment  facilities.

The "Lyceum Club of Greek Women", Johannesburg is a non-profit, cultural association which forms part of an international chain of Lyceum Clubs, the first of which was founded in Athens in 1910. To date there are over 70 Lyceums worldwide. Presently, there are over 16,000 members.

The Ithaquesian Philanthropic Society, the oldest Hellenic organisation in South Africa, was formed on 5 May 1905 to assist the immigrants coming to the country. The society was formally constituted as Philanthropic Society in 1924 and up until today, plays a dominant role in the Hellenic affairs in South Africa.

The Association was founded by the (then) Prime Minister of Greece, who escaped the German forces (by comming to South Africa), in 1941. The Association was re-established in 1970.

The establishing of this association, took place on the 5th of March 1963. Originally the association was formed in order to represent Greeks coming from Egypt residing within Johannesburg. With the 1975 amendment of their constitution, they included Greeks coming from Egypt residing within S. Africa. In 1988, with the final amendment in the organisation's name, Sudan was added to include all Greeks immigrating from Sudan.

The idea of having a Greek radio station in South africa was always a great one. With noticeable attempts (by individuals) on this direction for years, a team of people - strong believers of such a dream, managed to qualify the Greek community of Johannesburg, to get an official community radio license on January 1995. The first radio programme, was aired on 5:20pm, on the 1st of July 1995, from Brixton - Johannesburg. Today, the New Panhellenic Voice (based within the Greek Sporting Club), is still transmitting, 24hrs a day - 7 days a week, offering the Greek community entertainment and news bulletins in both Greek and English.

Members of the Greek community, who were interested and who participated in the arts, founded the "Hellenic Cultural Movement Of South Africa" (EPNEK) as an organisation in 1978. One could come across many cultural achievements within S. Africa and Greece, by investigating the organisation's archives.

In 1900, the first 3 Lemnians settled in the Johannesburg area. Between the 60's and 70's, the number grew to 300 families. In January 1943, 31 Lemnians founded the "Lemnian Brotherhood" based in Johannesburg.

The first Greek football team was "Hellenic", which was established in 1933. Other Greek teams were formed during the same era, such as "Apollo" and "Athenian". Theese 3 teams were amalgamated into one - the "Corinthians" in 1957.... One of many athletic stories of the Greek Sporting Club is the story of the "Corinthians". The Club is still there, offering vast athletic facilities to it's members. Fields and coaches for football, tenis, basket ball, rugby and much more.
